Nothing in this world remains the same, change is the only constant thing in society and that’s how it should be. The same goes for fashion, it changes rapidly with time and seasons. Every other day there’s a new fashion trend you will see on social media. But here’s a thing, although people use these words interchangeably, there is a difference between the words fashion and trend. Let’s talk about the new casual of this season.
The trend of oversized clothing – How it all started?
From runways to offices and Instagram feeds, well-tailored baggy new casual clothes are becoming a go-to fashion choice for everyone. Big jeans, XXL jackets, baggy pants, and oversized shirts dominated recent fashion displays by labels like Louis Vuitton. Among other things, the lockdown has taught us to put our comfort first. As a result, even when we return to work, we will prefer comfortable, loose styles over body-hugging attire.
The year began favouring baggy clothing on the catwalk as well; at the fashion shows of Balenciaga, Prada, Valentino, Schiaparelli, Louis Vuitton, and Fendi, oversized shirts, XXL coats, and huge trousers ruled supreme.
“I think people just want comfort over anything else because of all the depressing news in the past year. According to Rin Jajo, creative director at Ogaan India, it also creates the impression that it is armour or even just a shell behind which you may conceal the body that you haven’t had the desire to pay much attention to. Merrylin Boro, a model, concurs. Boro, who herself “very much lived in big new casual clothes throughout the lockdown,” believes that there will be a transition period where people will hold on to it and regard comfort as a top priority because everyone had so much downtime to be in comfortable new casual clothing.
However, the enormous look goes beyond simply going up a size. Trendy clothing is sophisticated, structured, and well-tailored.
Pierpaolo Piccioli revitalised the classic shirt dress at Valentino by using bright magenta. The Row disregarded the idea of balancing an oversized piece of new casual clothing with a more constricted design by pairing giant blazers with big pants. The atmosphere at Fendi and Paul Smith was similar. On the other side, Prada wore hoodies on the runway with voluminous midi skirts. At Balenciaga, Chloe, Etro, and Celine, denim mimicked the cosiness of sweatpants. For Spring-Summer at Louis Vuitton, louche jackets, coats, and blazers paved the way for roomier layering.
The style adaptation by models
Every time Hailey Bieber leaves the house, whether she’s running errands in her neighbourhood of Los Angeles or being spotted right off the runway during fashion week, she manages to create a street style sensation. Her off-duty supermodel uniform features a mix of classic wardrobe staples and fashionable items, such as baggier-the-better denim and cargo pants, Balenciaga pointed boots and moon bags.
But what really grabs the attention is how she dresses it up with the perfect outerwear. The Hailey Bieber street style formula thrives off of big coats to cosy yourself in and, of course, stand out in, particularly during the colder months.
Everyone knows Billie Eilish and her oversized baggy style. Billie Eilish is without a doubt the top Gen-Z celebrity. But Eilish has repeatedly shown that her sophisticated sense of style is equally as important as her music, having introduced logomania, easily fusing high fashion with streetwear, and exploring an ultra-feminine look.
Benefits of wearing oversized clothes
Now that I know my ideal size to wear is oversized, I can finally say goodbye to all those wasted minutes attempting to read the sizing labels and the torturous hours spent in fitting cabins.
Of course, there are limitations, and not all articles of clothing may be exempt from this law. But as a general rule, large suits the majority of situations and occasions! I’m sharing this personal fashion discovery with you because I think it will help you set your mind at ease when putting together a suitable wardrobe and will also help you save time and money.
There are some major benefits of wearing oversized clothes
Permanent and Constant Comfort!
My response was comfort! I dress in comfy clothing that makes me feel good. The rest simply disappears. Trends? Yes, they’re interesting to learn about, but I know where I stand in terms of those trends: over! I’m done with trends. Seasonal Fashion Shows are gone, and I’m so over professional stylists (not that I’ve tried any; I was just adding it because it sounded good, wink)!
Mixing and matching are simpler!
I became a lot more self-conscious since my clothes are too big. I didn’t get lost in the clothes. Just because I wear clothing that is two sizes larger than my normal size doesn’t mean that I enlarged myself! Instead of that! I’ve been much more aware of the volume and how I mix and match my clothes now. Volume was a good thing to think about because my wardrobe consists mostly of black and grey with a few splashes of chocolate, pink, and purple, making it one of the most important variables in my style game and the simplest method to mix and match my outfits!
Active & Cozy!
I lead a busy life, just like many of you, thus I need to always feel comfortable moving around in my clothes. Picking up the kids was out of the question while wearing my ill-fitting yoga lounge pants to school. I need something I can rely on and feel good about as I drive, pick up kids, and conduct errands. New casual Clothing that has enough room keeps me free to move around and be positive.
Modest & Forgiving!
Everybody has bad days. It’s my body, my life, and the decisions I make, and I’m totally comfortable with that. The decision to not feel bad the next day when I’m not as trim as I should be to fit into a pair of extra-slim jeans is also mine. When my stomach isn’t permanently attached to my back so I can wear a skin-tight pencil skirt. I don’t even think about how bloated and uncomfortable I feel as I put on my roomy clothing and head out the door, confident and stress-free!
